The current building follows the Bermúdez tower restoration plan by Carlos Fernández Gago, Art heritage expert, architect from Coruña, and previous advisor at Fine Arts commission, Consellería de Cultura, Xunta de Galicia. This initiative was covered by Royal decree: Real decreto 249/1976, January 9th 1976, that declares the place as National monument of historic/artistic interest. Usage is therefore limited «away from reforms or innovations undermining its pattern».
It was opened in April 30th 1988 as Valle-Inclán Auditorium and restored in 2003 under the Dirección Xeral de Patrimonio with the current set up and equipment, in order to value the new building, as functional and legal space of one of the best Galician Renaissance monuments.
