Viana del Prior Room

The room covering the second floor of the tower holds this name after introducing the audience in Valle-Inclán real and fiction environments, which cannot always be precisely located. The reason is that don Ramón plays with the reader-spectator by creating a situation from a time, place and characters action essence, far from simple descriptions of reality.

This place was a residential space, articulated into family chamber and private bedrooms, holding a loft accessed by wooden stair under roof ceiling. We assume coffered ceilings due to wall height.

The most recurrent toponym in his Works is «Viana del Prior». First appeared as «Puebla del Prior» in 1901 recreation of «Puebla del Deán», which is one of both councils that merged into A Pobra do Caramiñal. It was followed by «Viana del Prior»  in 1092, at Sonata de Otoño, also in subsequent books such as El Marqués de Bradomín, Águila de blasón, Romance de lobos, Cara de plata, Los cruzados de la causa, El embrujado or Divinas palabras.

Furniture and collected items:

First of all

Main bedroom, with original bed, side table, wardrobe, drawer chest and vanity table. They belonged to don Ramón del Valle-Inclán family houses in Madrid. In addition an office from the «small loft where I isolate to smoke my pipe and build palaces», originally coming from «Villa Eugenia», family house in Caramiñal.

Secondly

Original and facsimile selected local facts and family documents are showcased. They belong to a period ranging between 1916 and 1925. Letters around his writings here: El pasajero, Cara de plata, Divinas palabras, Los cuernos de don Friolera, Tirano banderas...; his pictures at Barbanzón land, snapshots from H. Garita and Gasset Neyra; as well as the local catholic farmers union foundation act (1919), where Valle-Inclán was the president.

Finally

Several art works are shown. He highlight paintings like the landscape Vista del Miño y montañas de Portugal, from Ovidio Murguía (1889); a still life: Rosa de Zoroastro (1973), from Jaime del Valle-Inclán Blanco, don Ramón’s son; Recogiendo manzanas, oil on canvas, from Juan Luís (ca. 1970). Before leaving the room we can admire the great portrait of don Ramón by Manuel López Garabal (1973) that tributes writer shape and some of his works.
