Bradomín Room

The room in the 1st floor of the tower building is named after circulating Valle-Inclán modern aesthetic devoted period. It is a polished, narcissistic, cosmopolitan and aristocratic style. A wall chimney must have heated the place. It would hold a wooden family coat of arms with the writer’s ancestor emblem, as depicted in contemporary books.

This place contains the following self explanatory panels:

  2. Final years.

It was then that don Ramón adopted his particular looking. At 1915 and 1916, the reflecting, imaginative writer desires things like the following aristocratic title: «Don Ramón del Valle-Inclán request a Royal Decree of inheritance in his favor on the titles of Marqués del Valle and Vizconde de Veixín», on the top of that euphonic «Señor del Caramiñal» (Lord of Caramiñal), assumed by the author and his disciples. Victoriano García Martí, tries to help decades after. He proposes a nation tribute to don Ramón memory with a final home in Galicia: Bermúdez tower.

«Don Manuel Bermúdez y Bolaño, my great grandfather, he was a gentleman… proud, aggressive and righteous… He used to sleep in a big tower room, a servant at the door. I pictured him as a remorseful sleepleess being suffering from phantom visions.[...] I believe he was an extraordinary personality, therefore I appreciate his heritage upon all the rest. [...] What lovely evocation those times are! Golden is thy name, Santa María del Caramiñal! Golden be thy swallow nested church! Golden are thy stones! Full golden manor village!».

Dining furniture, both table and chairs, with fine crystal set on the top, by a velvet upholstered corner sofa. They come from don Ramón del Valle-Inclán house in Madrid.

Selected original and facsimile documents, with relevant life and art news from the author are showcased.

First, a medical report from his left arm amputation (1899); printed 1st edition copies of his second and third works, Epitalamio (1897) and Cenizas (1899) are also shown; as well as an special edition, numbered and signed by the author, of Sonatas. Memorias del Marqués de Bradomín (1928), the top modernist prose work written in Spanish.

Secondly, don Ramón cartoon facing el Morro fortress at Havana, from Conrado Massaguer (1921); the Spanish writers union Manifesto against general Gerardo Machado regime (1931); or a few of his most personal and private letters.

Finally

Several fine art works. We highlight Crepúsculo, engraving by Ricardo Baroja, issued at 1st edition of Valle-Inclán’s Jardín Novelesco (1905); Castro Gil portrait named «El que más vale no vale tanto como vale Valle» (the most valuable is less worthy tan Valle) used as graphics for the Valle-Inclán complete Works edition (1944); drawings by Carlos Maside (vv.aa.); Álvaro Cebreiro (1924) and Lino González Rubido (ca.1935) cartoons. Before leaving the room let us admire the sketch for the poster that announced the Águila de blasón play representation, at María Guerrero Theatre (Madrid). It is a work of Manuel Mampaso (1966) painter and scenarist. The sculpture entitled El Marqués de Bradomín, created by the artist Ricardo Dávila (2016), is sited on the focus of this room.
