This room, located at the tower basement, is named after the place exhibition approach, which is dedicated to a local, social and family background context of the Arosa born writer, don Ramón del Valle-Inclán Peña, world class author.

Don Ramón biography has brought up the interest of many researchers and specialized critic. He was born at Vilanova de Arousa, southern Arousa estuary, on October 28th 1866. Being used to mystify himself, sometimes Valle-Inclán declares being native of A Pobra do Caramiñal, northen Arousa estuary, sometimes he would have been born aboard a vessel on the way between both harbors.

Don Ramón origin can be traced through family property. They were heirs of noble ascent, landlords and countrymen income owners at Salnés and Barbanza countryside. But their wealth had however declined.

«I have a great esteem for ancient Arosa. I love the poetic night with star-spangled sky reflecting on the crystal clear estuary. I love their melancholic autumn after sunset over Barbanza with its farewell sunrays upon the broken picturesque hills, where the light decompose in thousand vapor veiled colors without hiding the mountain body. Overall I love past Galician glory memories, which are grateful to us, who consider History as a golden tie among generations and our hearts beat for love to our homeland».

A glance at the furniture and other items:

First of all

The bookshelves come from Jesús Muruais house, who was a Latin teacher at Pontevedra secondary School, where Valle-Inclán read the most outstanding literature and art writers from 19th century.  Also, the pre-cinema devices have been brought from schools at Compostela. It reminds the cultural media relevance of magic light, or the local broadcasts –using praxinoscope or shadow theatres, so popular at the turn of the XX century.

Selected original and facsimile documents reporting on some of don Ramón’s ancestors, in particular his father who was linked to don Manuel Murguía: military and admin reports, letters, MoM from the council, dedicated books, historic family pictures. We select a handwriting letter where a young don Ramón asks the old Murguía for a new book prologue (1893) as well as a copy from a first edition of his initial publishing Femeninas. Seis historias amorosas (1895) with author’s notes.

In the meantime, after  his father’s death this tower is sold to a businessman who emigrated to Galicia. Afterwards the house was ruined. The contract, sign in Pontevedra –April 17th 1898, at Valentín García Escudero as notary─ is preserved in this room.
